Where the real & imagined meet…

Jennifer Cooke is an illustrator who explores the wonder of nature, through accurate observations and storytelling grounded in human emotion.

Growing up with cold-induced urticaria - a condition causing allergy to cold temperatures -  meant Jennifer spent a lot of time indoors, and drawing became her way of exploring the world.

Now, as an adult, Jennifer has found many ways to reconnect with the outdoors while managing her condition, including gardening, volunteering at a local farm and walking in nature. However, this interplay between the inner and outer, which began when she was a child, still shapes Jennifer’s work today.

Whether illustrating a flower from her garden, or a gentle exchange between characters, child-like wonder and curiosity for the world around us underpins her work.

Jennifer works mostly with ink and watercolours, and more recently has been exploring home-made inks in an effort to be more engaged with place and practice slow art.
